There’s something about summer’s cool, vacation vibe. The days are longer, the pace seems slower, and a month-long stay at the beach seems just about perfect. 😉 Okay, a vacation house would be awesome…but with a few simple tricks you can surround yourself with summer style, without even having to move! Here are 4 easy ways to style your home for the season:
1) Play with color.
Do you notice how summer visuals are typically bright, bold, and high-contrast? If you have a lot of neutrals in your home, adding splashes of bright color will make your house positively pop!
Looking for something simple? Liven up your living room with some cheery yellow accent pillows. Going inexpensive? Take a lamp shade from boring to bright blue with some spray paint. Really feeling bold? Paint an accent wall in a stunning peach.
(Hot tip: Try a color on your wall before painting with an online tool like Benjamin Moore’s Personal Color Viewer!)

2) Change your textiles.
Summer is the time to lighten up – visually and literally! If your cool-weather fabrics are still on display, they deserve a break. 😉 Take a walk through each room looking for dark blankets and heavy-looking textures. Put away those plush pillows, swap out the oriental rug, and let your throws have a break for the season! Opt for light, bright pieces, and enjoy the airy feel of your summer home.
3) Smell fresh.
Ever walked into a room that suddenly felt 10x nicer just because it smelled good? Summer smells like fresh fruit and produce and salty beach breezes, and your nose deserves a vacation too. 😉
What products do you typically use for cleaning? Change them for summer scents, like fruity hand soaps and fresh-linen fabric sprays. Use coconut oil in your lotion routine. If you’re feeling adventurous, try making your own yummy-smelling potpourri! (This DIY summer-scented citrus pot will give you serious aromatherapy!)
With a few simple swaps, your home will smell amazing, and your nose may think you’re on an island getaway. 🙂
4) Bring the outdoors in.
Nothing will put the finishing touch on your summer home like some plant life. Don’t worry about formal bouquets in vases – this season’s best arrangements are easy and free!
Step outside your door and start exploring! Daisies look darling in individual jars. Marigolds are perfect in the windowsill. Or try a moss terrarium (above) – they’re easy, fun and low maintenance!
Just be creative.
Go flower-hunting, put on your paint clothes…just have fun with your house this summer! And remember…it doesn’t have to be perfect. The less time you have to spend watering plants, the more time you have to cross things off your summer bucket list, sip lemonade, and enjoy a beautiful, relaxing summer home.
Happy decorating! 🙂
